The action of putting forward some statement or proposition as true. Also, the statement or proposition thus put forward. Frege noticed the crucial point that what is asserted can also be put forward not as assertion, but as a supposition or hypothesis, as possibly true, and so on. This is not true, for instance, in animal signalling systems. See also assertoric, Frege-Geach argument.
