The name Coppock is Scottish. When my ancestor left Scotland his name was Mac Donnell and he was from the area called Keppoch. When he boarded the ship he gave the name Keppoch instead of Mac Donnell because Mac Donnell was a clan name or "fightin' words". The fellow on the ship who registered the passengers spelled it Coppock and that has been the name ever since.

On the west bank of Loch Oich near a spring known as Tobar nan Ceann stands a remarkable memorial to a bloody incident that took place in the 17th century. Seven brothers were executed for the deaths of two members of the Keppoch family. Their heads were washed in the spring before being presented to the clan chief.
