Production background

The film was screened only at his art exhibits. A fan of the Batman series, Warhol's movie was a "homage" to the series, and is considered the first appearance of a blatantly campy Batman.[1]

The film was thought to have been a lost film until scenes from the picture were shown at some length in the documentary Jack Smith and the Destruction of Atlantis (2006).

Gregory Battcock appeared as "Batman". Battcock (1937-1980) was a close friend of Andy Warhol and starred in other films by the artist, including Horse (1965), Eating Too Fast (1966). His interest in cinema led him to write articles about other Warhol films such as "Notes on the Chelsea Girls: A Film by Andy Warhol" (1967), and "Warhol Film" (1968).
