The Battle of South Mogadishu, also known as the Black Hawk Down incident, occurred on October 3, 1993. It was a firefight between United States forces and Somali militia fighters in the Bakara Market area of Mogadishu, Somalia. The battle resulted in the deaths of 18 American soldiers and hundreds of Somali combatants and civilians.
