It's all just theatrics from the influence of his family's Beijing Opera, and as with all things he was a libertine who liked to create his own original style. Beijing Opera is highly expressive, consequently the reason for the screaming. As far as I'm aware, Beijing Opera does not exaggerate with the vocals.
