(byĕlərĕtsk') , city (1989 pop. 72,000), in Bashkortostan, W Siberian Russia, in the Urals and on the Belaya River. One of the oldest industrial cities of the Urals region, Beloretsk is a metallurgical center, with industries that produce steel wire and cables. The city has medical and pedagological institutes. Beloretsk was founded in 1762.

Beloretsk (Russian: Белоре́цк) is a town in the Republic of Bashkortostan, Russia, situated on the Belaya River. Population: 71,093 (2002 Census). Geographical coordinates: 53°58′N, 58°24′E.

History

Beloretsk was founded in 1762 as a settlemet around the newly constructed Beloretsk iron works on the Belaya River. Town status was granted in 1923.
