Dictionary of Dance: Bethsabee de Rothschild

Rothschild, Bethsabee de (Batsheva de Rothschild) (b London, 1914, d Tel Aviv, 20 Apr. 1999). Israeli-US dance promoter and director. She studied at the Sorbonne and Columbia University and after studying dance with Graham began sponsoring her company's performances and tours. In 1958 she moved to Israel where she founded the Tel Aviv-based Batsheva Dance Company in 1964, the Bat-Dor Dance Studios in 1967, and the Bat-Dor Dance Company in 1968.
