Biography

Blindspott, an alternative metal band from Waitakere, New Zealand, formed in 1997. The lineup initially featured Damian Alexander (vocals), Gareth Fleming (bass), Marcus Powell (guitar), and Shelton Woolright (drums), but Dave McDermott eventually took over on bass, and a second guitarist -- Brandon Reihana -- was added. Their self-titled debut album, released in 2002, debuted at number one on New Zealand's national chart and eventually went triple platinum. By the time the band recorded its second album, End the Silence, it had toured extensively, including gigs in Japan and Australia. The week End the Silence was released, it too went directly to the top of the chart. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide

The band was also managed by long time friend Kahn Hiko.[2]

Blindspott had a breakthrough single with 'Nil By Mouth' in 2001 which gained major airplay on TV and radio alike. Other hits released during 2001-2003 were 'Room to Breathe', Top 10 single 'Phlex', 'Blank', 'S.U.I.T' and 'Lit Up'. Their self titled debut album (2002) reached number 1 in its first week of release in New Zealand and they have had another top 10 single, Phlex.

End the Silence was released in Australia on September 2, 2006.

In 2007, after 10 years together and many publicised band fallouts along the way, Blindspott broke up to focus on more solo efforts. Blindspott played their final concert on August 25, 2007 at the Powerstation nightclub in Auckland.

In November 2008, Blindspott announced they were reuniting for the all-Kiwi music festival Homegrown for one show only, one of three acts reforming to perform at the festival. [3]
