The 16th of June is celebrated as a holiday by scholars and fans of Ulysses, the novel by James Joyce. It was on this day that the events of the novel took place in Dublin in 1904. Bloomsday is named after Leopold Bloom, the middle-aged advertising salesman who is the protagonist of the famous book by Joyce, which was published in 1922.
