The earliest of the style came out of the German city of
Einbeck. With a little creativity, the beer became associated with
it's founding city, by calling it "ein bock" or "a bock" a male
goat, which is why there is usually a goat on the label.

Kaltenberg Ritterbock is a Double Bock style beer from Barvaria,
Germany.Bock beer originated in northern Germany. A bock is a heavy
beer that tends to be sweeter and darker than regular beer.
Historically Bocks were only brewed in the spring, but this is no
longer the case. Bocks are now brewed year round. Since the term
bock has no legal definition the style will vary by brand. This
particular beer is generally available in April and is a lighter
bodied bock. Flavors of bitter chocolate and caramel nuttiness can
be found in the aroma and taste.
