Boot camp, sometimes referred to as basic training or basic military training, is a program which soldiers go through in order to train for the requirements of the military. Boot camp typically requires a soldier to undergo physical and mental training and conditioning exercises that are designed to integrate the soldier into military life.
While at boot camp, a soldier will be under the supervision of a higher ranking officer such as a sergeant. The ranking officer in charge will make all decisions as to what a soldier can do, when they can do it, and how they will do it.
A typical day in the life of a soldier at boot camp consists of waking early in the morning, physical training, breakfast, classroom and field training, lunch, more physical training, dinner, and then bed. The schedule of a soldier attending boot camp is strictly regimented and is designed to instill discipline and a sense of comradery amongst the soldiers in a unit.
Drill sergeants, commonly depicted in television, films, and books as being loud and angry, are also used in boot camp to condition soldiers to adapt to military life. A drill sergeant will indeed be loud and will get in a soldier’s personal space, but the purpose of this behavior is to instill respect, as well as force a soldier to face fears of confrontation.
While at boot camp, a soldier will be tested mentally, emotionally, and physically. The training received at boot camp is invaluable, both in the military and civilian worlds, as it teaches skills that most people will never learn. Soldiers will be placed in positions where they will have to face things that they would rather not, such as being forced to complete frightening or challenging obstacles.
Boot camp has been a staple of the military for the past 100 years and has continued to evolve as the military has grown. Advances in military technology and strategy have placed higher demands on the soldier attending modern boot camp, but this has resulted in a stronger and more well prepared military.
If you are thinking of joining the military, it is very important to do research on the specific branch’s boot camp standards so that you are prepared. The military and boot camp are not for everyone, so make sure that you will be able to handle the rigorous standards that you will need to meet.

Boot camps for an 8 year can be a difficult thing to find. Most boot camps and boarding schools will not accept a youth that is under the age of 12. There are a few places where parents can find help for an 8 yr old. They also have programs that parents can implement at home, rather sending their child away. There is one boot camp that will sometimes make exceptions for a child as young as 8. It is important for parents to research carefully any option prior to sending their child to it.

When a teen is severely delinquent and troubled, parents may take drastic measures to try to get their teen back on the right path. For some parents, that measure is a camp for troubled teens, generally known as a boot camp. Originally, the name boot camp referred exclusively to military recruit training camps run by the United States Marines Corps. Private institutions generally run boot camps for troubled teens in the United States. These boot camps are based on shock incarceration – short-term imprisonment – and military techniques. Boot camps claim that through their programs, they can scare of shock kids back onto the straight and narrow path. Generally, parents, not judges, are the ones who decide to send their teens to these camps. The teens do not have a choice in the matter – a parent can override a teen’s wishes and send them against their will. Frequently a teen will go to a boot camp as part of a plea bargain in exchange for avoiding prison trim or probation.
Boot camps are controversial due to their methods, which are frequently cited to be abusive, and the number of teens who have died in such programs, allegedly due to mistreatment, abuse or neglect. One report claims that over 30 teens have died in United States boot camps since 1980. Many of these deaths were high profile, leading to major lawsuits and laws being passed. For example, in 2006 a fourteen-year-old boy named Martin Anderson died in a boot camp. His death occurred after he was forced by guard to continue exercising after collapsing. When he became unresponsive, guards stuck ammonia capsules up his nostrils in an attempt to rouse him. Instead of rousing him, this lead to Anderson suffocating. He died the next day at a hospital after being taken off of life support.
Although cases like Anderson’s receive a lot of attention and criticism, many parents and officials still support boot camps and credit them with keeping their teenagers away from drugs and violence and helping them back onto the right path. Many of these parents feel that their teen was so far gone that less extreme methods would not have an effect.

We all know that kids are lazy these days, and spend way too much time on their computers, hand-held gaming devices, and watching television. Child obesity levels in the United States are at an all-time-high, as kids get more sedentary, eat bad food, and don't spend enough time exercising. A great way to get kids up off the couch and on their way to being fit is to run a boot camp for kids.
A 'boot camp' for kids is not like a boot camp for adults; you won't be screamed at by a drill-typeinstructor ordering you to do thirty push-ups, then sit-ups, then sprint like a lunatic, and do it again. What it will do is offer different fitness activities that are fun and motivating, challengingkids' ability to run, jump, sprint, push, pull, liftand throw. They will have so much fun they won't even be aware that they're strengthening theircardiovascular (heart and lungs) system, their strength (muscles), flexibility, andbalance.
A typical boot camp for kids might have circuit stations, where kids move from one to the next say every thirty seconds. Stations could include a jump rope, step-up onto benches, jumping jacks, sprints across the room, sit-ups, leaping from onehopscotch ring to the next, lifting weights, partnering up to do a ball toss, squatting, andpush-ups. This could be held indoors,in a YMCA, community center, a basketball court, or even in your own backyard. If it's indoors, you could blast some kid-friendly music for motivation.
Another type of boot camp for kids is done outside in a field or by a playground, where a small group works together. This could start withspeeddrills, andsprints in different directions to strengthen agility. It might follow with a strength session, using kids' own bodyweight to push-up, sit-up and dip on benches. Playgrounds offer a myriad of creative ways to get kids fit, including bars, ropes, and swings. Next would come abdominals, and finally stretching.
Besides challenging kids' to improve their fitness abilities, these boot camps also test individual kids' social and sharing skills.
Ensure the boot camp is run safely, by professionals.Check the fitness clubs, YMCAs, local papers, and online sources for boot camps for kids held in your area.

The teenage years are a confusing time when challenging parental authority is a common tactic. Most teenagers keep their attempts at rebellion within accepted levels, although occasionally a young man or woman gets out of control and takes things a step too far. An overwhelmed parent may not know what to do in this circumstances. Military may seem like a good option, but it is a bit extreme.
A teen who gets into legal trouble may find that this situation is already decided for him and his parents. He may be sent to a boot camp for teens. The program uses a military-style environment to make a teen reevaluate his behavior, learn discipline and learn boundaries. The experience is not meant to be pleasant, but for some, it may be the chance they need to avoid spending time in a juvenile detention facility.
A boot camp for teens will not engage in physical violence and thankfully, unlike a military boot camp, will not teach a violent and troubled adolescent how to effectively use weapons. Instead, the teen will be placed through a variety and physical challenges. At the end, he will come out with an attitude adjustment and slightly more physically fit, if the program has been successful.
The drill sergeant of a boot camp for teens division will not hurt the participants and may not be allowed to touch them, unless certain conditions are violated. The drill sergeant will use tactics such as yelling, getting in the participant’s face, and making him or her do push-ups.
Although a judge may order it as a punishment for a teenager, a parent may decide to send their wayward child to such a program without intervention from the legal system. Sometimes a teen may e given the option to go to this or leave the home of his parents or the option of going to a boot camp. Neither one is a pleasant option, but it may serve as a wake-up call for the party that’s involved.
