Bracknell , city (1991 pop. 52,257), Bracknell Forest, S England. Bracknell was designated one of the new towns in 1949, in order to alleviate overpopulation in London. In 1949, Bracknell was a market town of some 5,000 persons, with timber yards and a brickmaking industry. Population growth increased with the added industries and manufacture of boilers, gasoline pumps, tools, clothing, and sealing compounds. A college of further education is there.
