Biography

A native of Shreveport, LA, Brian Blade established himself as a versatile, accomplished drummer early in his career, appearing on albums by the likes of Joshua Redman, Kenny Garrett, and Bob Dylan. Blade released his first album, Brian Blade Fellowship, at the age of 27 in 1998 and followed two years later with Perceptual. Always an in-demand sideman and collaborator, Blade continued to find work with a varied bevy of artists, including Joni Mitchell, Bill Frisell, and Wayne Shorter. Ten years after releasing his first album as the Brian Blade Fellowship, Blade returned with Season of Changes in 2008. A year later he released Mama Rosa. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

Brian Blade (born July 25, 1970) in Shreveport, Louisiana is an American jazz drummer, composer, singer/songwriter and session musician.[1]

Biography

Blade made his first recorded appearances as a sideman with Kenny Garrett and Joshua Redman and continued to work as a sideman with other musicians.

As a bandleader, he has released three albums under Brian Blade & the Fellowship Band. The band features Jon Cowherd, pianist/composer, Chris Thomas, bassist, Myron Walden, alto saxophone/bass clarinet, Melvin Butler, tenor and soprano saxophone and Kurt Rosenwinkel, guitar.

While continuing to work with the Fellowship Band, he has been a member of Wayne Shorter's most recent quartet and has also recorded with Joni Mitchell, Bill Frisell, Ellis Marsalis, Norah Jones, Emmylou Harris, Daniel Lanois, Bob Dylan, Dorothy Scott, Billy Childs and David Binney.

He is the brother of drummer and producer Brady Blade, Jr.
