In Lisbon and beyond, Brisa - Auto-estradas de Portugal (known as Brisa) is the king of the road. The company operates 11 toll roads that crisscross Portugal; overall, Brisa is responsible for more than 1,000 kilometers of highway. More than half of the company's toll revenue is collected electronically through its Via Verde system. Besides its highway operations, which account for the vast majority of the company's sales, Brisa provides roadside assistance and car inspection services and manages toll collection systems. Other interests include minority stakes in toll road operators in Latin America and Spain. Brisa was founded in 1972.
