Producer/Director Bruce Paltrow became the first recipient of the Diversity Award from the Directors Guild of America, in 1997, noted as a champion of women and minorities. He first broke into television, writing, producing and directing the series, Shirts/Skins, which premiered in 1973. In 1978, he created The White Shadow, which ran for three years, and a year later he brought the medical drama St. Elsewhere to the television screens.
Paltrow was born in Brooklyn, NY, on Nov. 27, 1940. He was married to actress Blythe Danner, and they had two children, Gwyneth and Jake. Bruce Paltrow died on October 3, 2002.
