Biography

Bassist and arranger Buddy Clark began playing bass in high school, after earlier learning piano and trombone. He studied at the Chicago Musical College in the late '40s, then worked with Bud Freeman and Bill Russo. He toured in the '50s with Tex Beneke and Les Brown, then settled in Los Angles. He played with Pegge Lee, Red Norvo, Dave Pell and Jimmy Giuffre. During the '60s, he worked as a studio musician, while playing with such jazz bands as Gerry Mulligan's. He was part of the original Supersax band, working directly with Med Flory in transcribing Charlie Parker solos in the early '70s for a sax section. Clark played and toured with Supersax until 1975, when he left and resumed his studio career. ~ Ron Wynn, All Music Guide
