Feb 28, 1906. The gangster Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel was born in Brooklyn, NY. He was a contemporary of and in cahoots with Meyer Lansky and Lucky Luciano. Siegel moved to Hollywood, CA, in 1937 to lay low after committing a murder. Expanding on his petty gambling operations, Siegel began to construct a hotel and casino called The Flamingo in remote Las Vegas, NV. The hotel, opened in 1946, was initially a failure, until Lansky and Luciano poured more money into the venture. Siegel was shot and died at his girlfriend Virginia Hill’s Hollywood home on June 20, 1947; no one was ever convicted of the murder.
