bulbar paralysis (′bəl·bər pə′ral·ə·səs)

(medicine) A clinical syndrome due to involvement of the nuclei of the last four or five cranial nerves, characterized principally by paralysis or weakness of the muscles which control swallowing, talking, movement of the tongue and lips, and sometimes respiratory paralysis.
