Established in 1919, the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) is a leader in safety standards testings. The CSA is a division of the CSA Group. Its mark appears on millions of products sold annually. It is required by law for many products sold within Canada, and the mark tells consumers that the product meets or exceeds CSA's standards for safety and performance. Due to the requirement and the cost of standards testing, counterfeit marks are not uncommon.^{[citation needed]}

CSA develops product safety and performance standards including those for electrical and electronic equipment, industrial equipment, compressed gas handling appliances, environmental protection, and construction materials. CSA is composed of representatives from industry.

History

Canadian Standards Association was established in 1919 as the Canadian Engineering Standards Association (CESA). CESA was renamed the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) in 1944.

In 1984, CSA established QMI (Quality Management Institute) as a Canadian registra for ISO 9000 sereise quality management programs.

In 1999, CSA International was established to provide of international product testing and certification services while CSA shifted its primary focus to standards development and training. In 2001, these three divisions were joined under the name CSA Group.

In 2004, OnSpeX was launched as the fourth division of CSA Group.

OnSPex

OnSpeX is a division of CSA Group. OnSpeX is a provider of global product performance evaluation services for the consumer product and retail markets with expertise in product design consulting, product specifications, product evaluation, inspection and data analytics.

OnSpeX provides various evaluation, inspection and advisory services designed to help organizations accelerate supply chains, increase product sales, build customer satisfaction and lower product return rates.

QMI

Quality Management Institute (QMI) is a North American management systems registrar. Established in 1984, QMI offers registration and training services to companies adopting internationally recognized management standards. QMI is a division of CSA group.

QMI registers companies to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9000 quality management standards (including medical devices) and ISO 14000 environmental management standards. QMI also registers companies to QS-9000, the automotive standard; TE Supplement, the tooling and equipment standard; AS 9000, the aerospace standard; and TL 9000, the telecommunications industry standard.
