Italian family of artists. The travelling Venetian actors Gaetano Giuseppe Casanova (d 1733) and Giovanna Zanetta Farussi produced six sons, the second of whom was the adventurer Giovanni Giacomo Casanova (b Venice, 2 April 1725; d Ch?teau Dux, Bohemia, 4 June 1798), notorious for his amorous pursuits. He is best-known for his M?moires, which include generally reliable information about the lives and careers of two of his brothers: (1) Francesco Casanova, known for his battle and equestrian pictures, and (2) Giovanni Battista Casanova, a Neo-classical draughtsman, painter, forger and writer.
