The Catholic Church does not deny the Child Abuse - Fr. Brendan
Smyth was the abuser. The subject causing controversy is that
Cardinal Sean Brady was aware of this and did not do much about
it.
The Catholic Church are very particular about Child Abuse,
Especially in America, where child abuse cases are more common.
Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Vatican Secretary of State, tried to
explain how complicated these cases can be. He said; "if a priest
cannot confide in his bishop for fear of being denounced then it
would mean that there is no more liberty of conscience". But, the
Catholic Church insists a "demand that a bishop be obligated to
contact police to denounce a priest who had admitted paedophilia".
Cardinal Sean Brady is in the wrong for not taking the situation
further.
