Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin lived from 1900-1979.
She was born May 10th, 1900 in Wendover, Buckinghamshire U.K. and died December 7th, 1979 (aged 79)
She was one of the most notable female astronomers. She worked at Harvard Observatory, even though she was born in England.
Her claim to fame, was that in 1925 she showed that stars in the main sequence of development are composed almost entirely of the elements hydrogen and helium which contradicted the current beliefs of the time.
