Biography

The rock group the CeeDees got their start in Ontario, Canada, in 1979. Original members were lead vocalist, guitarist, and keyboardist Curtis Driedger; drummer Nick Kent; and bassist Doug Cameron. Over the next eight years, many other artists would step into the mix -- or out of it -- including drummers Bucky Berger, Billy Bryans, and Michael Spencer Arcott; guitarists Rob Fortin and Jim Peccia; and bassists Merrie-Ellen Wilcox, Terry Wilkins, Janice Powers, and Ed Dick. The one member who remained a constant fixture with the group throughout the near-decade of their existence was founding member Driedger. He was also responsible for writing a lot of tunes for the group.

A year after their birth, the CeeDees recorded a debut album, The CeeDees Hit the Ditch, released under Carrot Records. Six years later, the band finished a five-track self-titled EP, their last offering to fans. After the final split-up of the CeeDees, all three of the founding members stayed in the music business. Driedger went on to do some solo work and become a part of other groups like the Lost and Profound. Kent is probably best known for his later drumming with Martha and the Muffins, while Cameron reached his career height as a solo artist. ~ Charlotte Dillon, All Music Guide
