A centrifugal switch, once the motor reaches near run speed, centrifugal force causes a set of contacts to open and disconnect the start capacitors. Some larger motors use a contactor which is disconnected by the centrifugal switch.

The centrifugal switch is likely to wear out and require replacement. It could also create a spark which could cause fumes from the oil inside the motor

The hermetic compressor cannot use a centrifugal switch like an open motor because it will disrupt the start winding. Hermetic compressors work through insulated motor terminals, and not in the open.
