Every state is different, you should contact your local EMS service and see what the requirements are. You will have to first get certified as a First Responder and then get your EMT Certification.

LPNs and RNs are considered to be Basic Certified and must be CPR certified, although much past the basic First Aid cert focuses on actual first responder work, which may or may not apply to or be trained by a nurse.
