Biography

A mid-'80s avant-funk band with some industrial nuances, Sheffield, England's Chakk was too late in the game to be considered alongside the pioneering post-punk likes of 23 Skidoo and A Certain Ratio, groups that Chakk resembled and took influence from. The group's lone full-length, 10 Days in an Elevator, was released by MCA in 1986. Tipped for great heights, the record failed to live up to expectations and the group split. Mark Brydon, who built a studio with the money his group received from their label deal, went into production (including Krush's "House Arrest") and achieved a fair amount of success post-Chakk as one half of the electronic duo Moloko. Dee Boyle joined Longpigs, and Slim Lister and Jake Harries became part of Heights of Abraham. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide
