A chamber pot was a ceramic or metal pot used in bedrooms to
serve as a toilet. It was placed in a wooden bench or nice piece of
furniture. It had a lid to cover the chamber pot. There were
chamber maids who had to empty the chamber pots and clean them
thoroughly. We have commodes today that serve the same purpose for
sick and disabled people.
