According to several websites the rarest dog breed is the Chinook. Chinook's went into decline in the 1960's. In 1981, when the breeds fate looked grim, several dog lovers gathered and attempted to restore the breed. Now Chinook's are primarily house pets, but few are used as sled dogs.
