Biography

The sharp-featured Saturday Night Live funnyman who crafted such finely tuned characterizations as Mango and Mr. Peepers on the long-running comedy sketch show, Chris Kattan has followed the familiar SNL path into feature films with such efforts as A Night at the Roxbury and Corky Romano.

Born in Southern California and raised in Seattle, Kattan later attended college at University of California at Northridge, constantly turning up in numerous theatrical productions during that time. Becoming involved with the SNL breeding ground comedy troupe the Groundlings after college, the aspiring comic refined his comic skills until the legendary late-night comedy staple came calling. Joining the SNL cast in March of 1996 as a featured player, Kattan soon earned his keep with his hyper and sassy delivery consistently drawing laughs while combined with his outlandish characterizations. Kattan has also appeared in such popular television shows as Grace Under Fire and NewsRadio in addition to translating his head-bobbing Doug Butabi character (alongside Will Ferrell) to the big screen in 1998's Roxbury. 2001 found Kattan hitting the big screen again with Corky Romano. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

He has a half-brother named Andrew Joslyn who resides in the Northwest, in Seattle, Washington, and is 12 years younger than Kattan.[citation needed]

Kattan married model Sunshine Tutt on June 28, 2008, in Oakhurst, California after proposing to her at her grandparents' home in Gainesville, Texas on Christmas Eve 2006.[3] Kattan's publicist told E! News on August 19, 2008 that the couple had separated but had no plans for divorce.[4] However, on August 22, 2008, Kattan filed for legal separation from his wife, claiming that the couple separated on August 10.[5]

Early work and SNL

Kattan was a member of several improv/sketch comedy troupes one of them being The Groundlings in Los Angeles. His father was an original member of the troupe.[6]

He moved to New York City to work on Saturday Night Live from 1995 to 2003. His recurring characters included Mr. Peepers, Mango, Azrael Abyss, Kyle DeMarco from The DeMarco Brothers, Gay Hitler, Suel Forrester (known for the term "dagitybo") and, most notably, one half of the Butabi Brothers with fellow SNL (and Groundlings) cast member Will Ferrell, known for their trademark head-bobbing.
