Christian Bale, who was tapped to play the title character in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, made his first on-screen appearance when he was nine years old, in a British commercial for Pac-Man cereal. Four years later he beat out 4000 other young hopefuls for the coveted role of James Graham in Steven Spielberg's Empire of the Sun, and his career was on its way.
Among other roles the Welsh-born actor has played are, Jack Kelly in Newsies, Laurie in Little Women, the voice of Thomas in Pocahontas, Chris in Metroland, Demetrius in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Patrick Bateman in American Psycho, Walter Wade, Jr. in Shaft, Mandras in Captain Corelli's Mandolin, John Preston in Reign of Fire. He also starred in The Machinist, 3:10 to Yuma and Rescue Dawn.
Born January 30, 1974, Bale is married to Sibi Blazik.
