Photography: transparent piece of photographic film with a positive color image, as a 35mm slide; also called color transparency. Common chrome sizes are 35mm slides, 21/40 _ 21/40, 40 _ 50, and 80 _ 100.

Printing: to apply chromium to a printing plate, to protect the plate from corrosive action and allow the surface to require less ink. If there are a great many pieces to be printed, the application of chromium will give the plate longer printing life.

Often used as a term of contempt.
