I'm not sure what you mean by this question. Do you mean to ask why people going to the cinema is not as popular in Malaysia as in other countries? Or why legal DVD sales in Malaysia is not very high?
Well, the cinema thing is easy, though I'm not sure whether the cinema statistics indicate that less people go to the cinema in Malaysia than elsewhere. Censorship is a booming business in Malaysia, with the Film Censorship Board being 'overzealous' to say the least when it comes to censorship...it is not unheard of for a 2 hour movie to be cut down to 1 and a half hours when it comes to the cinema...movies have been banned for innocuous reasons and yet there is inconsistency - they banned Daredevil for 'violence' and yet they showed the scene in T3 where the Terminator shoves its hand through someone's stomach...other scenes that have been censored are a scene of a guy and a girl sitting together on a bicycle...The pirated DVD business also doesnt help...people think its better to go and buy a pirated, uncensored DVD rather than go to the cinema...this affects original DVD sales as well...
