While I have not tried it, if you read Clifford Pickover's article "Picturing Randomness on a graphics supercomputer" published in the IBM Journal of Resaerch and Development. VOL. 35 NO. 112 January/March 1991, he says to color the points as a function of r , theta and phi (the spherical coordinates) in order to detect any correlations in the random data.
