Biography

The duo Climie Fisher was part of a forgotten British Invasion in the late '80s. Bands from the U.K. like Johnny Hates Jazz, Waterfront, and Curiousity Killed the Cat tried to lure American audiences with a polished amalgam of blue-eyed soul and light funk. Featuring vocalist Simon Climie and keyboardist Rob Fisher, Climie Fisher released their debut album, Everything, in 1988. Fisher was previously one-half of another duo, Naked Eyes. Climie and Fisher met while recording session work at Abbey Road Studios in England. Lamenting the lack of good pop music, they decided to collaborate, hiring Steve Lillywhite and Stephen Hague as producers on Everything. In addition, veteran songwriter Dennis Morgan was asked to co-write several of the tracks, including "Love Changes (Everything)" and "Rise to the Occasion," two of the group's biggest hits. "Love Changes (Everything)" landed at number two on the U.K. charts, and it's the group's most well-known song in America. After a second LP, 1989's Coming in for the Kill, Climie Fisher split up. On August 25, 1999, Fisher passed away at the age of 39. Climie co-wrote and produced much of Eric Clapton's album Pilgrim; he also co-produced Riding With the King, featuring Clapton and B.B. King, and Clapton's Reptile. ~ Michael Sutton, All Music Guide

Career

The duo are best known for the 1987 hit single "Love Changes (Everything)" which reached Number 2 in the UK and in South Africa (on re-release), Number 7 in Germany, Number 8 in Switzerland, Number 15 in Austria & Number 23 in the US, all in 1988. The hip hop-styled remix of "Rise To The Occasion" had also previously reached Number 10 in the UK singles chart and reached later Number 1 in South Africa, Number 14 in Germany, Number 17 in Sweden and Number 19 in Austria. Their last hit single was "Love Like A River" in 1989, which reached Number 18 in Austria, Number 22 in the UK and Number 54 in Germany.

Rob Fisher died on 25 August 1999 during surgery for bowel cancer, whilst Simon Climie became a producer for recording artists such as Louise, MN8 and Five Star as well as co-writer and musician on many of the more recent albums by Eric Clapton.

Half Man Half Biscuit recorded a song, "The Ballad of Climie Fisher", which recounts an entirely concocted tale of a feud between Climie and Fisher.[1] It appears on their album Trouble Over Bridgwater.
