    2. A sled or toboggan.
    3. One who rides a sled or toboggan.
  2. Nautical. A vessel engaged in coastal trade: "dirty British coaster with a salt-caked smokestack" (John Masefield).
  3. A roller coaster.
    1. A small mat or plate placed under a vessel to protect a tabletop or other surface beneath.
    2. A small tray, often on wheels, for passing something, such as a wine decanter, around a table.
  4. A resident of a coastal region.

1. Unuseable CD produced during failed attempt at writing to writeable or re-writeable CD media. Certainly related to the coaster-like shape of a CD, and the relative value of these failures. “I made a lot of coasters before I got a good CD.

2. Useless CDs received in the mail from the likes of AOL, MSN, CI$, Prodigy, ad nauseam.

In the U.K., beermat is often used in these senses.
