Plot

This Gaumont novelty film was an effective combination of live action and animation. The story begins as a young man walks upon a bare stage, lugging a balky, strange-looking machine. Operating a crank on the side of the contraption, the young man conjures up a variety of grotesque animated images, which appear on the left-hand side of the screen. Apparently, the mystery machine is a projector of some sort, though this is never made clear. The "show" over, the hero packs up the device, bows to the audience, and shuffles off to Buffalo. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
