A commandant is an officer in charge of a prisoner-of-war camp,
an internment camp, conentration camp or similar camp. Obviously,
the commandant sets the tone for the running of the camp. For
example, a lazy commandant may turn a blind eye to abuses committed
by guards to prisoners .
