During the Cold War, the US policy was to contain the growth of communism. President Eisenhower asked the Congress for a resolution that would authorize him to intervene in the Middle East. Specifically, Eisenhower wanted the power to stop any armed aggression in the Middle East from communist aggression. Any nation that was part of International Communism could be confronted by US armed forces if it attacked any Middle Eastern nation.
