The Polish Communist Party used to be called the Polish United
Workers' Party. In 1989, the party was dissolved and many of its
members joined socialist parties such as Social Democracy of the
Republic of Poland which in turn became a constituent of the
Democratic Left Alliance.

The Communist Party of Spain (PCE) was founded on November 14, 1921. It played a significant role in Spanish politics during the 20th century, particularly during the Spanish Civil War and the subsequent Francoist dictatorship.
