Discombobulation is the state of being suddenly thrown into confusion, befuddlement or bewilderment. Usually this means that the person is unable to continue with the immediate task; a speaker will be speechless and stunned, perhaps, for a few moments. The bewilderment may last, and the embarrassment that goes along with it, but the state of being stunned into inaction rarely lasts more than a minute or two, and may last only a few moments.
