The Bahai Faith does not have a Pope. The Bahai community is
administered by elected counsels, called Assemblies or Houses of
Justice. The local and national Assemblies are elected every year.
The head of the world-wide Bahai community, the Universal House of
Justice, is elected every five years.
Doctrines are not decided by the Assemblies: they are based on
the writings of Baha'u'llah and the explanations of them from two
authorised interpreters: Abdu'l-Baha and Shoghi Effendi. There is
no authorised interpreter today, and none can be appointed
(Abdu'l-Baha and Shoghi Effendi were appointed in Bahai
scripture).
