Biography

Ronnie Hawkins' backing band, the Hawks (a different group of players than the ones who became the Band), renamed themselves Crowbar in 1970. That year they recorded Official Music with King Biscuit Boy; the first album as Crowbar, Bad Manors, appeared in 1971. Larger than Life (1972), Heavy Duty (1972) and KE32746 (1973) followed before the band split in 1974. Original member Jozef Chirowski began playing with the Alice Cooper Band, while the rest (Sonnie Bernardi, John Gibbard, Roly Greenway, Kelly Jay and Rheal Lanthier) re-formed in 1977 with keyboard player Rex Harrison and bassist Rick Birkett; although the band didn't record, they toured Canada. Kelly Jay had a brief solo career in the late '70s and early '80s, and returned to recording in 1993. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide

Crowbar is a fictional supervillain in the DC Universe. He first appeared in Justice League of America #233 (December 1984).

Fictional character biography

Malcolm 'Crowbar' Tandy was part of a Detroit gang when the Overmaster infused his namesake weapon with incredible energy and drafted him into his first Cadre. Crowbar’s original crowbar was destroyed during a battle with Justice League. Later, while a regular at the supervillain bar called 'The Dark Side', he lost a replacement crowbar in a card game to an investigative reporter named Tortolini. Several of his supervillain friends lost their items of power also. In Justice League Of America #44 Crowbar and his friends reclaimed the items from the man, but they were soon defeated in a battle with the Justice League. Crowbar was defeated by Lightray.

He was last seen in San Francisco when he and the rest of the Cadre battled the Power Company alongside Doctor Polaris ('Power Company #5, August 2002).

Crowbar has recently resurfaced in Justice League of America #17, along with Black Mass and Nightfall, trying to leave America and escape capture. They were stopped by Black Lightning.
