CSI: NY (Crime Scene Investigation: New York) is an American police procedural television series, which premiered on September 22, 2004 on CBS. The series was the second spin-off, indirectly, from the popular show CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, and directly from CSI: Miami, during an episode of which several of the CSI: NY characters made their first appearance. The show currently airs Wednesdays at 10PM ET/PT on CBS.
The show trails the investigations of a team of New York City Police Department forensic scientists as they unveil the circumstances behind mysterious and unusual deaths and other crimes. CSI: NY was produced in partnership with the Canadian media company Alliance Atlantis. The company dissolved after the third season in 2007. All production now is done under the purview of CBS Paramount Television.
The show has concluded its fifth season, which started September 24, 2008 and ended on May 14, 2009 in the United States.[1] The fifth season of the show started on FIVE for viewers in the United Kingdom on 10 January 2009 and ended on 27 June 2009. The show's 100th episode aired on November 19, 2008, in the USA.
Season 6 began on September 23, 2009 at 10:00PM ET in the USA.[2] RTÉ Two in Ireland will broadcast Season 6 in Autumn 2009 and Channel 5 in the UK will broadcast season 6 starting in January 2010.

Main characters
- CSI Detective First Grade: Mac Taylor (Gary Sinise): is leader of the CSI team. He was born in Chicago and even considered working for the Chicago Police Department. The death of his wife, Claire Conrad Taylor, in the 9/11 attacks troubles him to this day, causing chronic insomnia. It was also noted in the first season that he kept a beach ball in his closet that once belonged to his wife; he stated he was unable to throw it away because it contained some of her breath. He served as a major in the United States Marine Corps, once saying that he had wanted to serve the country more than anything else in the world. He served in Beirut in 1983, from which he still bears a scar over his heart. Mac will protect three things at any cost: "the honor of his country, the safety of his city, and the integrity of [the] lab." Mac has a close friendship with Stella Bonasera. Mac plays the bass guitar at jazz clubs during his off-time. This talent was discovered by Lindsay Monroe when she observed, during an investigation, that he knew how to hold the instrument ("Stuck On You"). In season three, he is revealed to have been dating Dr. Peyton Driscoll, played by Claire Forlani. He also met the son that his late wife, Claire, had given birth two years before they met (and gave up for adoption), only after the boy, now a teenager named Reed Garrett, was found to be shadowing Stella, thinking that she was Claire. In Season 4, Mac starts receiving mysterious phone calls at exactly 3:33 am. Later on, he also realizes that the phone calls come from a number known only as 333. Everything ends up having to do with an incident when he was a young boy. His friend's brother was beaten to death in front of him, and as he and his friend come to find out later, his friend's littlest brother witnessed the murder and holds Mac responsible for not saving his brother's life when Mac had the chance, making him the 333 stalker. To make matters worse, later on in Season 4, Mac receives a letter from Dr. Peyton Driscoll stating that she decides to stay in London and not come back to New York. In Episode 5 ("Down The Rabbit Hole"), he seems to have sleeping problems and told Det. Don Flack about accepting Peyton's decision to stay in London.
- CSI Detective First Grade: Stella Bonasera (Melina Kanakaredes): is devoted to her job due to her strong personality, determination, and intelligence. She is a half-Greek, half-Italian orphan, who grew up moving throughout foster homes, due to the death of her mother in a traffic accident when Stella was just 2 years old ("Grounds for Deception") . Since they co-head the lab, she is very close to Mac, and constantly worries about his physical and mental well-being. In episode 221 ("All Access"), Stella was held captive in her own home by her unstable boyfriend, Frankie Mala, and was forced to kill him. Because of her close relationship with Mac, she was mistakenly thought to be Mac's late wife, Claire, by Reed Garrett, a child that Claire had given birth to and put up for adoption before she had met Mac. In season three Stella comes in contact with HIV positive blood. After waiting several months for the test results, Stella discovers she is HIV-negative using a viral PCR test administered by Adam Ross. The show used Stella's possible HIV infection as part of a public service campaign on CBS. In Season 4, Stella bumps into a man named Drew during a case in Episode 2 ("The Deep"). Drew seems to take a deep interest in her and keeps sending gifts to her office. Drew is later revealed to be Mac's 333 caller. In the season 5 opener ("Veritas") she is seen chasing Joe and Joe later pushes her over a rail and gets away, but she is apparently strong enough to pull herself back up. hoi.............
- CSI Detective Third Grade: Danny Messer (Carmine Giovinazzo): grew up in a family under surveillance. Danny formulated his own set of hybrid ethics, blending the world of lawbreakers with the world of lawmakers. Danny had a short-lived career in the music business, and was at one time an excellent baseball player. Danny played all through school and college, and would have gone on to the majors had his wrist not been broken during a game. After that, he went to the police academy and graduated first in his class. Mac personally selected Danny to join his team, which is an honor and responsibility that Danny attempts to live up to every day. He does not trust people easily, as shown in "A Man a Mile", "Rain", and once again in "Hung Out to Dry". In episode 220 ("Run Silent, Run Deep"), Danny was implicated in a fifteen-year-old cold murder case. His brother, Louie, who was involved with the infamous Tanglewood Boys, was severely beaten and left in a coma after acquiring evidence exonerating him in the case. By the end of season three, Danny embarked on a relationship with his fellow CSI Lindsay Monroe. He had a mental breakdown after the death of his neighbor's son, Ruben. Out of pain and guilt, he slept with Ruben's mother, Rikki. That night he thought that Lindsay Monroe was still mad at him because he forgot her birthday. She then told him that she was sad because he never came to her for advice or help or to just cry on her shoulder, then she said that she loved him and she had to let that go now. However, in episode 419 ("Personal Foul"), Danny begged Lindsay to come over to his apartment so they could talk things out. It was at this time that Anna Belknap became pregnant with her 2nd child in real life, and instead of hiding this pregnancy like she did with her first in season 3, the producers decided to write this development into Danny and Lindsay's storyline, making Danny the father of Lindsay's child. It is believed that on the night of "Personal Foul", Lindsay turned around and went to Danny's apartment to work things out, and it was on this night that Danny and Lindsay conceived their child. However, it wasn't until episode 509 ("The Box") that Lindsay revealed to Danny that she was pregnant and that he was the father. Danny is initially scared about the notion, but in 510 ("The Triangle") and 511 ("Forbidden Fruit"), it is clear that he is excited about fatherhood, as he expresses concern for Lindsay's well-being. In episode 510 ("The Triangle"), Danny proposed to Lindsay, but she turned him down as she felt it was the wrong time, and that he was just proposing because she was pregnant with his child. In 511 ("Forbidden Fruit"), Danny is obviously excited at the prospect of becoming a father because he puts his hand on Lindsay's bump, in order to feel the baby kick. As of 516 ("No Good Deed"), Danny is two months away from fatherhood. In episode 517 ("Green Piece"), Danny and Lindsay go to the courthouse with Stella and Mac to finalize their relationship and tie the knot. In episode 519 ("Communication Breakdown"), it was revealed that Danny and Lindsay are having a girl. The child is born at the end of 523 ("Greater Good"), and in episode 524 ("Grounds for Deception"), her name is revealed as "Lucy". Mac is named as the baby's godfather. In 601 ("Epilogue (II)"), it is revealed that Danny is confined to a wheelchair as a result of the shooting in the season 5 finale. He told Lindsay originally that the doctor had told him he had a 60% chance of walking again; however, it later is revealed to the viewers that his chances are only 10%. At the end of the episode, Danny is able to move his toes a little. In episode 603("LAT 40 Degrees 47'N/Long 73 Degrees 58'W), it is shown that Danny is getting ready for physical therapy. In episode 604("Dead Reckoning") it is revealed that Danny is doing physical therapy and getting closer to walking. At the end of this episode, it is shown that Danny is walking.
- CSI Detective Third Grade: Lindsay Monroe (Anna Belknap): worked as a CSI for three years in Montana and finally realized her dream of moving to a big city like New York. Her Northwestern work ethic and willingness to roll up her sleeves and tackle any job is a welcome addition to the team where she is quickly put through rookie training by Mac on their first case. Excited and always willing to learn, Lindsay offers a fresh perspective to the lab, rarely hinting at the dark and devastating secret that originally motivated her to dedicate her life to being a CSI. She often does little experiments with science and the evidence, which has endeared her to Mac and Stella. When she first came to New York, she was typically given all of the dirty jobs like sifting through tiger dung ("Zoo York") and recovering evidence from a pool of lubricant ("Trapped"). Because of her roots, Danny affectionately calls her "Montana". For the majority of the end season two, Lindsay kept Danny at arm's length while she tried to deal with memories triggered by the secret from her past, but after the events of "Sleight Out Of Hand", she allows herself to get close to Danny, and they consummate their relationship in the season three finale, "Snow Day". Later in season four she tells Danny that she loves him and that she has to try to figure out how to let that go because she thought he didn't feel the same way. In episode 509 ("The Box") it is revealed that Lindsay is pregnant with Danny's child. She is initially scared on telling him as she is unsure of how he will react, but after some reflection he accepts and embraces the prospect of fatherhood. In episode 510 ("The Triangle"), Danny proposed to Lindsay, but she turned him down as she felt it was the wrong time, and that he was just proposing because she was pregnant with his child. In 511 ("Forbidden Fruit"), Danny put his hand on her bump, in order to feel a kick from the baby, so Danny is obviously excited at the prospect of becoming a father. As of 516 ("No Good Deed"), Lindsay is two months away from motherhood. In 517 ("Green Piece") Lindsay and Danny tie the knot with witnesses Stella and Mac at the local courthouse. In episode 519 ("Communication Breakdown"), it was revealed that Danny and Lindsay are having a girl. - Medical Examiner: Doctor Sid Hammerback (Robert Joy) is described as an "off-the-charts genius" who only recently traded in a career as a chef to become medical examiner. He has a habit of over-talking and over-sharing, which former ME Hawkes refers to as "going to that creepy place." Despite any eccentricities on his part, Sid is extremely perceptive and sincerely cares for the well-being of his coworkers. Sid nearly dies from a severe allergic reaction to a meatball hero he ate in episode 317 ("The Ride In") and is saved by the timely intervention of Stella Bonasera. Sid divorced at least once (episode 304, "Hung Out to Dry"), is currently married with two daughters, one of whom is in college (episode 302, "Not What It Looks Like"). In episode 502 ("Page Turner") he almost dies of radiation poisoning from a victim in the morgue. In episode 518 ("Point of No Return") he comes face to face with the horror of what one of his former employees was doing - Marty Pino had been harvesting the organs of drug users and making them into heroin for profit, and after getting fired he started to kill the drug users to make his drugs. Sid managed to convince Marty to turn himself in.
- Laboratory Technician: Adam Ross (A.J. Buckley): is a lab tech originally from Phoenix, Arizona. His specialty is trace evidence. He sometimes accompanies the CSIs to crime scenes to aid in reconstruction or evidence collection. Adam has a severe dislike of snow and cold weather (episode 313, "Obsession"); he remarked that because he is from Phoenix, he considered temperatures below 85 degrees Fahrenheit cold. He admits during "Some Buried Bones" that "his father was a bully" after he recognizes a suspect's instinctual flinch as shying from an anticipated strike, which seems to hint that Adam himself had been abused as a child. He also ran a PCR test on Stella's blood to determine if she had contracted HIV from a piece of HIV infected glass at a crime scene that she had accidentally cut herself on. In "Snow Day", he and fellow CSI Danny are held hostage in a warehouse and he sustains a few cigarette burns on his hand. In episode 506 Adam gets a letter stating that they have to let him go. He confronts Mac, who says he didn't know anything about it. Mac confronts the chief, who says that because of the budget they have to let some people go. Mac has a big argument with him and later with Stella because he wants her to cancel the new DNA machines they ordered. Stella thinks that the machines could help solve murders faster and put more people away. Mac states that Adam could put away more criminals then the machine and that Adam is a very hard worker. At the end of the argument Mac says that he will stop at nothing to keep Adam at the lab. It is later revealed that Adam heard the whole argument.
- CSI Detective Third Grade: Doctor Sheldon Hawkes (Hill Harper): formerly a Medical Examiner with the NYC Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME). He was a child prodigy who graduated from college at age 18 and was a board-licensed surgeon by the age of 24. He had several years' experience in the emergency room (episode 202, "Grand Murder at Central Station"). After losing two patients, he abandoned surgery in favor of the medical examiner's office. At the start of season two, Hawkes has moved from the autopsy room out into the field. In episode 311, "Raising Shane", Hawkes is arrested as the prime suspect in a robbery and murder, but the rest of the team, despite being removed from the case, end up proving his innocence through a seemingly-unrelated case. In 601, It is revealed that he is suffering from insomnia.
- NYPD Homicide Detective First Grade: Donald "Don" Flack, Jr. (Eddie Cahill): comes from a long line of law enforcement officials. He bridges the gap between old-school NYPD and the new generation of CSI. He is a witty detective who has very little patience for the "bad guy", and his techniques are sometimes considered borderline, though effective. He is good friends with Danny Messer, and is always willing to lend an ear to Danny's problems. Flack has to arrest his former police mentor, Gavin Moran, when it comes to light that Moran had concealed evidence in episode 117 ("The Fall"). Flack was severely injured in a bomb explosion and ended up in a coma in the cliffhanger of the season 2 finale, episode 224, "Charge of this Post". As of the season three premiere, he is fully recovered and back on duty with the CSI team, chasing down suspects with all of his previous endurance. Flack is very protective of his "guys", sometimes to a fault. It is shown in the episode "Consequences" that he was reluctant to help Mac when evidence seemed to point to one of his men as the killer in a case Mac was working. Flack was ordered to hand over his notebook, which contained details of a drug bust in which some of the drugs disappeared, over to Mac, which caused some serious tension between them for a brief period of time. By the end of season three, the tension had dissipated, and Flack steadfastly supported Mac when the latter was questioned about the death of serial killer Clay Dobson ("...Comes Around"). In the beginning episode of season 5 ("Veritas"), his sister Samantha becomes a suspect when it's discovered that the bank robber holding Mac hostage was seen in her car at a toll booth. She claimed to have loaned it to a friend, who is now dead, and later gets cleared. It is later revealed in the seventh episode of that season ("Dead Inside") that she is an alcoholic. Also revealed in that episode is his relationship with fellow detective Jessica Angell, who is killed in the line of duty in the season finale.
- CSI Detective Third Grade: Aiden Burn (Vanessa Ferlito): is a Brooklyn native who has the ability to adapt to new situations very quickly. She is dismissed from the team in Season 2, Episode 2 ("Grand Murder At Central Station") after becoming obsessed with a rape case concerning her friend and considering planting evidence to implicate a suspect, D.J. Pratt, who had allegedly raped the same victim previously (the victim did not seek to press charges then). She does not actually plant the evidence, but breaks the seal on an evidence packet containing one of Pratt's hairs. Because of this, Mac feels he had no choice but to fire her to preserve the integrity of the CSI lab. Aiden agrees with Mac's decision because she does not know if she would resist the temptation in the future, but before leaving, manages to extract a promise from Mac that he will get Pratt for his crime. After her dismissal from the crime lab, Aiden is working on getting her private investigator's license while trying to find evidence that will conclusively tie Pratt to the rape case. In another episode from season two, "Heroes", she is lured, ambushed, and brutally murdered by Pratt and incinerated inside a stolen car after having shadowed him for months. In the heat of the moment, she leaves behind critical evidence that she knew would help her former colleagues close in on Pratt. Aiden's murder devastates the entire CSI: NY team.

Crossovers
The characters of CSI: NY were introduced during the second season CSI: Miami episode, "MIA/NYC NonStop". The shows crossed over a second time in the CSI: Miami season four episode, "Felony Flight", in which Mac travels to Miami to assist Lt. Horatio Caine of Miami in tracking down a common nemesis. The story was continued in the second season CSI: NY episode, "Manhattan Manhunt", when the murderer flees to New York and Horatio returns to New York with Mac to continue the investigation.
In addition, episode 3-22, "Cold Reveal", which aired May 9, 2007, featured a crossover between the series and Philadelphia-based police procedural Cold Case in which Det. Scotty Valens of the Philadelphia Police Department travels to New York to investigate a cold case involving Stella. This episode marked the first time that characters from a show outside the CSI franchise crossed over onto a CSI episode.
In season 6, CSI: NY will crossover with both CSI (for the first time) and CSI: Miami (for the third time), in a three part story. Dr. Ray Langston from CSI will start off in Miami, travel to New York, and journey back home to Vegas.[3]

- Five broadcasts the newest season of CSI:NY from January alongside the newest season CSI, both shows end in May/June. CSI:Miami begins to run from Auguest and when that finishes in December, CSI: NY and CSI are ready to run the cycle again. Five doesn't split up the seasons with breaks for Christmas etc. They run the season each week until it reaches the last episode.

- Repeats: Spike TV acquired the rerun rights to CSI: NY in November 2004. Both A&E and Spike TV share the rerun rights to the crossover episodes (with CSI: Miami), Felony Flight and Manhattan Manhunt. [9] Starting in July 2009, Spike TV will be sharing the rights to air CSI: NY with TNT. This means that "Spike TV will be only airing [the show] in the daytime (1-3pm) and early evening (5-7pm)", leaving TNT to air the show in primetime.[10]
