  2. Anatomy.
    1. A pointed or rounded projection on the chewing surface of a tooth.
    2. A triangular fold or flap of a heart valve.
  3. Mathematics. A point at which a curve crosses itself and at which the two tangents to the curve coincide.
  4. Architecture. The point of intersection of two ornamental arcs or curves, such as the inner points of a trefoil.
  5. Astronomy. Either point of a crescent moon.
  6. A transitional point or time, as between two astrological signs.

In architecture, the intersection of lobed or scalloped forms, particularly in arches (cusped arches) and tracery. Thus the three lobes of a trefoil (cloverleaf form) are separated by three cusps. Cusped forms appear in early Islamic work and were especially common in the Moorish architecture of North Africa and Spain. The form was adopted wholeheartedly by European Gothic architecture.

A notably pointed or rounded eminence on or near the masticating surface of a tooth.

A small hollow in a beach, U-shaped in plan with the arms of the U pointing seawards. Beaches tend to have a series of cusps which are formed when outgoing rip currents and incoming waves combine to set up nearly circular water movements along the beach.
