Cuzco, Peru is a beautiful city. It is a city filled with an old
traumatic history and culturally rich in beauty. From the Santa
Catalina Convent and Art Museum to the Pikillacta (a pre-Inca ruin
in the Cuzco area), this is a treasured spot that should not be
missed.
Cuzco was the historic capitol of the Inca Empire. Cuzco has two
distinct season dry and rainy with the rainy season starting in
November and ending in March. A popular tourist destination it
receives about 750,000 visitors each year. It’s altitude is around
11,200ft. As a result of the city’s high altitude you’ll notice the
thin air. It is prudent that you spend the first day relaxing as
you acclimate. Most visitors have an intense urge to get to Machu
Picchu, by way of trekking for four days along the Inca Trail, or
by four hours on the train then hiking the rest of the way. Plan to
spend at least two days in and around Cusco before starting the
trek to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Cuzco offers a tour of the
City and the nearby Inca Ruins don’t forget to include a visit to
the traditional Indian market at Pisac.
Many travellers have discovered the beauty of Cuzco, Peru and
return year after year. Cuzco offers plenty of adventure activities
like trekking, mountain biking, rafting, and climbing. Cultural
activities such as local fiestas and festivals are prevalent
throughout the year. No matter what time of year you visit Cuzco,
Peru is sure to please.
