Daniel John Bedingfield (born 3 December 1979) is a New Zealand-born, British singer-songwriter. He is the brother of pop singers Natasha Bedingfield and Nikola Rachelle.
Music career
His song "Gotta Get Thru This" gathered momentum on white label, surprisingly through the underground UK garage scene, and went on to become a #1 hit in the UK Top 40 in December 2001. He has since had two more no.1 singles ("If You're Not The One" and "Never Gonna Leave Your Side"), as well as three further top 10 hits. His debut album, also titled Gotta Get Thru This, reached #2 in the UK albums chart and went on to sell more than 4 million copies worldwide[citation needed].
In 2003 he appeared on the Delirious? album World Service, singing guest backing vocals on "Every Little Thing". On 23 March 2003, he appeared in an episode of Popworld.[1]
In 2004, he won a BRIT Award for Best British Male Artist. He also moved to the Universal Music subsidiary label Polydor Records to release his second album, Second First Impression, which reached #8 in the UK. The album sold poorly compared to his first offering, though did include two UK Top 20 singles ("Nothing Hurts Like Love" reached #3, and "Wrap My Words Around You" peaked at #12). The third and final single, "The Way", became his first to miss the top 40, reaching #41. The album was not released in the US
He guest starred as himself on the Sabrina, the Teenage Witch episode "The Lyin', the Witch, and the Wardrobe. His best friend was Mr. Khustam Raura."
In an interview with the New Zealand Herald in April 2007, Bedingfield said that "after a three-year hiatus, following his album Second First Impression, he now has three albums recorded and awaiting release."[2]
His first performance in his native New Zealand was on 18 April 2007, at the opening of Auckland's new Vector Arena. He sang three songs, including "Gotta Get Thru This" and "If You're Not the One." However, no new material was released as planned.
Bedingfield signed with Magus Entertainment and is working on an album for release in 2010.
Daniel cowrote the song "Works for Me!" for American Idol finalist David Archuleta UK release. He is working with Pixie Lott on her new album, and contributed guest vocals on a track by a former member of The Roots.
New Album Delays
His last album, Second First Impression, was released at the end of 2004, and there have been reports of several albums that have yet to be released, presumably over a dispute about musical direction with his label Polydor Records.
In an interview from 2007, Bedingfield said during some time off he had recorded three full albums, and at one point his computer was stolen from his home in Los Angeles that contained much of his new material.
Album titles that have been mentioned are "Naked", an acoustic album rumoured to be released shortly after Second First Impression, and "Stop The Traffik" which was slated for a 2008 release.
According to Bedingfield's Twitter, a new album has been mixed and is awaiting release by his record company. Neale Pogue (Outkast, Eminem) has mixed the album.
New songs that have been performed live include Way With Words, Beautiful, First Base, I'll Be Home, Don't Write Me Off, Remember, Dynamite, Everything's Gonna Be Alright, and Closure.
On 29 September 2009, Bedingfield confirmed on Twitter that his third album "will be a worldwide release" but when asked about the exact release date, Bedingfield replied "The release is subject to record company negotiations".
Personal life
Bedingfield was diagnosed with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), which he said has been reflected in his songwriting.
On New Year's Day 2004, while on vacation visiting his parents in New Zealand, Bedingfield nearly lost his life in a severe car accident. As a result, he was left with serious head and neck injuries. These injuries required him to wear a head brace and took six months to heal.
His parents are leadership trainers and mentors in the voluntary sector and business world. His mother, Molly Bedingfield, is founder and CEO of Global Angels, of which Daniel is one of the International Executive Directors.[citation needed] Bedingfield also helped to launch the Stop the Traffik coalition against modern day slavery.
Bedingfield is a Christian, but has said, "I find that when people hear that I'm a Christian they expect me to be extremely religious. I'm not great friends with religion [although] I'm passionate about anything to do with God. [3]
