Darlac
A province in the central highlands of Vietnam. Its capital, Ban Me Thuot, was attacked by Vietcong forces on January 31, 1968, as part of the Tet Offensive, and fighting swept across the province often. It was the scene of one of the final tests of the military will of the South Vietnamese government, when Vietcong forces attacked the capital again and succeeded in capturing it. This convinced President Nguyen Van Thieu that the highlands could no longer be held and triggered a military and civilian withdrawal from the area, which soon turned into a frantic melee as the Vietcong followed up on their success.
