History
The Defense Acquisition University (DAU) is a United States military training establishment which trains and enables the 126,000 military and civilian Department of Defense personnel in the fields of Acquisition, Technology and Logistics; including Leadership and Program Management.
The mission of the DAU is to provide practitioner training, career management, and services to enable the AT&L community to make smart business decisions and deliver timely and affordable capabilities to the warfighter.
The DAU vision is to enable the AT&L workforce to achieve the right acquisition outcomes.
DAU headquarters is at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. It has five regional campuses located throughout the United States: Fort Belvoir, Virginia; Huntsville, Alabama; San Diego, California;California, Maryland; and Kettering, Ohio. DAU serves the members of the DoD Acquisition, Technology and Logistics workforce and their DoD industry counterparts.
There is a recognition at the university that the effective education and training of the workforce requires more than just resident classes. As a result, support is framed around something called the AT&L Performance Learning Model that includes training courses, performance support, continuous learning, and knowledge sharing aspects of learning. There are currently more than 248 online continuous learning modules available to the Acquisition Workforce, and in fiscal year 2008 the DAU had 333,332 graduates from courses offered at the university.
The DAU maintains strategic partnerships with over 130 colleges and universities that offer credit for DAU courses toward degrees and certificates.
DAU's publishing arm, DAU Press, provides a number of online publications, along with its flagship publications: Acquisition Review Journal and Defense AT&L Magazine.
