To decrease the morale. Employee morale can be lowered from many causes such as lack of appreciation by superiors, layoffs, and salary give backs. Where possible, the personnel department should minimize adverse causes on morale since worker productivity and accuracy will typically fall off and the employee turnover rate may rise.
