Dephot (Deutscher Photodienst), German photo and press agency founded in 1928 by Simon Guttmann (1890-?) and Alfred Marx. With Felix H. Man and Umbo joining in 1929 and Kurt Hübschmann (Hutton) in 1930, as well as Walter Bosshard, Harald Lechenperg, Robert Capa, and Cohnitz swelling its ranks, it developed into a seedbed of modern photojournalism. Its members' work appeared in influential illustrated papers like the Berliner illustrirte Zeitung and Münchener illustrierte Presse. Dephot went bankrupt in 1932, but became Degephot (Deutsche Photogemeinschaft) shortly afterwards.
